#SafeAllies: What Are My Rights?
Understanding the laws that govern bullying is important for students, parents and school district employees.
While there are no federal laws that specifically address bullying, anti-discrimination laws may apply to bullying situations. Federal law prohibits discriminatory harassment on the basis of race, national origin, color, sex, age, disability, or religion (protected groups). The laws are enforced by the Department of Education and the Department of Justice. In addition to federal protections, bullying is addressed in Nevada state law, and many of those laws were put into place because of experiences and advocacy on the part of families and youth.
